Transforming lives: A family's journey with The Key Clinic

Our Family's Experience at The Key Clinic

We contacted The Key Clinic in May 2023, facing challenges with both of our daughters. We had moved from the UK to Guernsey post-lockdown, and the transition exposed some significant gaps, especially in our eldest. She struggled to keep up in school—difficulty remembering information taught in lessons, rushing through tests, leaving lessons to go to the bathroom, and generally finding it hard to fit in. Our youngest, two years younger, was also grappling with her own set of issues linked to dyslexia and ADHD symptoms, which affected her learning and self-esteem. Her difficulty with organising herself and being in the right place at the right time got her into trouble at school and gave her enormous anxiety. She desperately wanted to get it right but often found herself in trouble. She experienced panic attacks as she knew something would be forgotten or lost daily despite her best efforts.

The decision to approach The Key Clinic was spurred by Chris Evans' mention on his breakfast show, especially given the long wait times for traditional diagnostic routes. We felt an immediate, strong pull towards their holistic approach—promising not just symptom management but a deep dive into the root causes of our daughters' struggles. While they waited for a CAHMS diagnosis, we committed fully to the process, a significant investment of time and financial resources, as we helped both daughters at the same time. The Key Clinic was all-encompassing for our family, so I believe we got the results we did. You have to go for it 100% at home and make it daily practice.

The Key Clinic's method was thorough. For our eldest, they started with an assessment of retained reflexes and auditory processing. The findings led to a tailored program that tackled these foundational issues head-on. She had difficulty with social cues and coordination and a series of small yet puzzling behaviours, like crab walking, an awkward posture when walking, finding herself outside of social groups, anxiety in cities, and a few more.

Our youngest daughter's assessment highlighted different retained reflexes, focusing on her dyslexia and attention difficulties. Both girls underwent a detailed biomedical evaluation, highlighting a chronic deficiency in Zinc and B6 and some lurking metals, which indicated that they weren't detoxing efficiently. It influenced a significant change in how we ate (we were already a very healthy family, so I was surprised at how much we could improve!) and a regimen that included daily exercises and regular check-ins with the clinic's specialists.

Results

Amelie's transformation is profound. Previously anxious and on the outside in social situations, she became more outgoing and engaged more confidently in sports. Her newfound self-assurance is evident in her posture and social interactions, where she thrived. She absolutely loves a city break, no longer finding it overwhelming but very much enjoying the hustle, bustle, and adventure.

Jeannie experienced equally impressive changes. The targeted interventions improved her reading and learning capabilities and overall emotional resilience. Her anxiety decreased dramatically, and her sleep quality improved, contributing to a happier, more balanced life. She has not suffered a panic attack since.

ADHD Diagnosis and Ongoing Management

Both were eventually diagnosed with ADHD and while medication was introduced towards the end of our time with the Key Clinic, both girls continue to choose to take it on school days due to the massive difference it makes to their ability to access their education, it's important to emphasise that the foundation laid by The Key Clinic's interventions took them 90% of the way. The medication supports their focus and exam results in school only and would not have addressed the rest.

The underpinning that comes from working through their retained reflexes and supplementing their improved diets has profoundly changed how they are experiencing their teenage years and, ultimately, the trajectory of their lives.

We are without doubt that if they choose to let go of ADHD medication when they have finished school, they will continue to thrive.
