Supporting learning difficulties and activating learning potential

We recently had the pleasure of working with 17 year old Ffion, who sent us the below to describe the incredible changes she experienced whilst working with us:

"All my life I have found reading, writing and maths impossible. I couldn’t even spell or write my own name. One day, I had to provide a signature for the bank. Mam had to write my name on my arm, hidden by my sleeve, so that I could look down as I wrote my name in the box, to see what I had to write.

I have had many upsetting times connected with my dyslexia, all through my life. But one of the worst times was when I had to visit the dentist during Covid and Mam was not allowed to join me. The receptionist asked for my details: Name, which I just about managed to remember, then she asked for my date of birth and address – neither of which I could remember. I was 16 years old and I still feel the panic and upset I felt that day when I realised that I could not remember even the most basic information to pass on verbally, let alone consider writing it down.

My mother and father realised when I was very young - about 3 years old - that I was not finding things as easy as my twin sister. Over the years, they took me to many different people in the hope that someone would be able to help me. We travelled all the way from Wales, where we live, to London and even up to Scotland. Some things helped a little, but most didn’t. One day Mam saw an article written by a television/radio presenter and realised that what he had written about his child, sounded very similar to me. This is how we found our way to the Key Clinic and I am so glad we did!

So many things that made my world so confusing are now making so much more sense. I can walk and talk and dance better. I can explain my thoughts and feelings easier. I can even throw and catch a ball, whilst skiing! I am beginning to read and write! I read a 5 word sentence from a book and not only read it, but I understood it! It was exactly as if someone had flicked on a switch in my brain!

I am slowly, but surely improving. I am excited about what the rest of my life may be, as I now feel I have had doors opened for me that I didn’t have before.

I dearly wish to become an author…….I hope you will see my book on the shelves one day.

Thank you to all the Key Clinic staff, you have really changed my life."
